Everything you need to know when it comes to Indian food
'The Art of Indian Vegetarian Cooking' by Yamuna Devi
The whole book is 800 pages strong and well organized. At the beginning there is a general table of content:
- Intoduction
- How to measure and use the recipes
- Rice
- Dals
- Breads
- Vegetables
- Dairy products and dairy-based dishes
- Salads
- Chutneys
- Sauces and relishes
- Light meals and savories
- Snacks and nibblers
- Sweets
- Beverages
- A-Z general information
- About His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada
- Glossary of Hindi terms and pronounciation guide
- General index
Every chapter has a separate index of general information about that section and the recipes for the dishes. The short story of every dish is told before the recipe starts.
Indeed this book is very handy to use. The A-Z general information provides you with information about the ingredients and their preparation.
The only thing I was missing were photos of the dishes - preferable coloured photos. There are only drawings, but they do their job well.
In the recipes the amount of the ingredients are indicated in tablespoons (etc.) AND ml (etc.), which is a big help for us Europeans. All recipes can be veganized.
The index shows you every tag for a quick search of a recipe, ingredient, etc.
If you - as a true lover of Indian cuisine - can still get your hand on one of the copies, c'mon 'n' get it!
