How to pair wine with vegetables

This German book 'Wein & Gemüse' (= Wine & Vegetables) closes a long-term gap on a book pairing wine with veggies - especially vegetarian food. Unfortunately it's the only one on the international book market...so far.

Finally there!

A long-time open gap has closed. Pairing vegetables with wine is considered problematic by some people. In classic wine & food paining the sommelier normally fixes on the meat or fish, the dominates the dish for the wine choice. For many vegetable dishes some people recommend - ironically or not - rose wines. In my opinion not exactly the way, a pro is supposed to work like.

Nowadays vegetarian and vegan dishes are much more common in restaurants with a remarkable wine list. On public demand vegetarian and vegan dishes are much more requested, but no-one has really taken care of that with a whole book on that topic...until now: A German Sommelier and a German food blogger took the challenge for good. They released a very nice book in spring 2017.

Not just a book on pairing wine & veggies...

Yes, this book is a cookbook, too! Alongside with 60 vegetarian recipes, Manuela ans Sebastian recommend several wines with each vegetable dish. Special short chapters on tasting wine correctly, purchasing best quality veggies & wines or on making wine are very helpful for all non-experts of wine & food.

The rise of the vegan wines

If we talk about pairing vegetarian & vegan dishes with wine, we consequently will have to talk about vegetarian and vegan wine making, too.

The Grape Explorer explains what you have to pay attention for, if you are looking for vegan or vegetarian wines:

Unfortunately not every winery answers to the reply, if they have vegan or vegetarian wines. They just don't seem to care about it! Modern wineries oftenly are aware of it. They actively offer vegan wines, because the vegan & vegetarian lifestyle is a huge trend of the last years and still growing.

With some luck, an English version of this great book may come out in the next couple of years. Get your hands on it!
